The Grey Attic: Time Stands Still...
Sometimes partnerships appear out of nowhere and flourish. Our collaboration with The Grey Attic's supremely creative duo Annika and Dean happened as such - organically and with ultimate ease, resulting in dreamy, sublimely nostalgic images as they documented their exploration of the streets of Fitzroy (and we just can't get enough). This is what it's about - embracing the unknown, the mysterious, the places you've never seen in your own city and drinking it all in.
Annika explains more below.
Some ‘things’, without warning or reason, without any explanation, and without any obvious or evident pattern, are unapologetically magnetic…metaphorically adhesive. You think you remember these things in their entirety, as they were originally intended, but as time passes your memory moulds the context and you create a fragmented version of what you thought you saw, heard, touched, tasted…
I once read something, one of those ‘things’, the ones you just can’t seem to let go, refuse to forget; one of those things you think you remember. The underlying message went something along the lines of… time stands still in moments that look a lot like ordinary life. My interpretation, or rather, my solace with this simplistic sentiment came from its ode to fearlessly defend the normal, to fight for ordinary moments with extraordinary memories and to endlessly search for the beauty in the undone, the underexposed, the everyday.
There’s a certain aesthetic ease in replicating the idea of normality, a mimicking portrayal of everyday life, when the art of purposefully blending in replaces the creative constructs of the imagined and the curated representations of a fantasy life. In a world where everyone is over exposed, one of the coolest things you can do is maintain a little bit of your mystery, rely on deliberate portrayals of reality; refreshingly undone and subtly endearing. Layer yourself with effortless armour, ornamentation, decoration; or perhaps the contentment comes from simply referring to them as clothes, unassuming statements of pared back ease, let your intentions and your interpretations make them wondrous.
Spinning, chasing, running, through the undone streets of Fitzroy, we took an edit of the latest C/MEO COLLECTIVE and Keepsake collections on an exploration of the everyday, revelling in the contradiction and making muses out of the familiar.
Time stand stills... but to make the magic, you just have to know when to stop moving too, because sometime reality really does trump fantasy.
