Sunday Girl : BNKR x Eyeko
The time was right for love, freedom and rock and roll. When the only arguments were over which record to spin next. Lazy days spent by the pool and riding bicycles to the corner store. The dreamer set her sights on fame and dressed for the spotlight. Draped, embellished and star spangled at all times of the day and night. Make-up smudged her pillowcases but she didn't care; she would be ready when they came for her. 'Sunday Girl' - A BNKR x Eyeko collaboration.
BNKR collaborates with cosmetic royalty Eyeko for the launch of their new 'Rock Out & Lash Out Mascara'. Influenced heavily by the spirit of the sixties and seventies (even the brush is rock'n'roll), plus the sooty, turned up lashes fresh off this year's runways.
Founder Nina Leykind explains...
Why did you choose a guitar shape wand, and how does it help with application for this?
Eyeko Rock Out & Lash Out Mascara is inspired by the ingenues of the '60s and '70s like Francoise Hardy, Marianne Faithful and Anita Pallenberg to name but a few. I love that sooty, fluttery lash look and created a guitar shaped brush to best emulate the look. The tapered end allows you to go from vertical sweeping lashes into a starburst effect and plumping up outer lashes for incredible curl. Adding mascara to bottom lashes is a must for this look and again the brush is perfect for tapping colour onto lashes to magnify and accentuate your eyes.
The rocker-chic mascara look is quite the trend for fall – why do you think that is? How can someone pull it off? Any tips and tricks for streetwear?
We saw a lot of clumpy lash looks on the catwalk and heavy mascara application to create a dramatic rock-chic eye. It’s such an effortless youthful look and pairs well with the graphic liner and smokey eyes. For everyday, clumpy lashes are a no-no. Aim for volume by thickening up the lash line using your wand to push colour into the roots and then pull the brush through to tips. Apply three coats, and once lashes are dry give them a quick two second lift with your lash curlers for long-lasting, definition and hold.
Why did you choose to collaborate with BNKR?
I’m really looking forward to visiting Australia in 2016! There’s so much going on down under and a lot of love for Eyeko that it was super exciting to collaborate with such a cool collective like BNKR!
You're a very fashion-focused brand, teaming up with Alexa Chung as well. What do you look for in your partnerships, and what are you continuing to look for in the future?
All the partnerships and collaborations that we engage in have come about in a very organic and spontaneous way. For us it’s about an exchange of ideas and ultimately doing something fun and playful - whether that’s with Alexa [Chung, a long time ambassador of the brand] where we shot our first product campaign pics on an iPhone and incorporated her napkin doodles on pack, or working with Rockins the luxe scarf brand who inspired our Eyeko Rock Out & Lash Out Mascara. Watch this space - we definitely have a few surprises up our sleeves coming soon!
