2015 Trend Report
2014 – the year of the ‘90s revival, green juice obsessions, mountains of mules and er, normcore. While many of last year’s trends have – thankfully – been laid to rest, you can bet some will be sticking around (crop tops and culottes are here to stay, baby). So what can you expect for 2015? Try icey pastels and citrus, let the orient inspire, show those shoulders and embrace a dash of ‘70s style. But regardless, do it your way. W E A R T H E R A I N B O W
For the minimalists, pure whites, blacks, greys and camel are your staples (as usual) – think fuss-free slouch and intelligent simplicity a la Céline. Sweet pastels are an easy transition for those who don’t normally opt for colour – try mild yellow, soft pink, blush and periwinkle blue – in everything from crops and co-ords to knits and trenches. For the bold it’s a citrus infused palette, with punchy red, tangerine, persimmon and lemon all here to tempt those tastebuds.

Cold shoulder, one shoulder, off the shoulder – it’s all about the décolletage. You’ll be seeing this across the board, with bodices and super slim dresses for after hours and cutout jersey for day. Time to show off that skin.

Obi belts are this year’s champion – think Karate Kid cool. Thick yet sleek, knotted on the side, front or back, they accentuate and add texture without weighing down the outfit. While we’re at it, look for hanging ties on shorts, shirts, pants and bags, plus exaggerated bows, twists and knots; play up the volume for 2015.

We’re not just talking your humble pinstripe or Breton here – the stripe is undergoing a real transformation. Go for chunky, sporty lines, prison stripes, a bold mix of thick and thin, and fleeting lines to create movement and interest. Horizontal, vertical or diagonal – this is the year to get your stripe on.

Yes, we know – florals for spring and all that. But these babies are in season all year round, and it’s go big or go home when it comes to blooms in 2015. Expect delicate line work, digital prints in vivid shades or artistic shapes with a refined palette of soft blues, apricots and ivory.

We’re not talking your mum’s old flares, but there’s a definite ‘70s influence filtering through this year. From super wide pants (try a cropped pair if you’re feeling bold) and denim on denim to bell sleeves, halters and cropped turtlenecks, it’s Jane Fonda cool with a contemporary edge.

This year when it comes to kicks, more really is more. Daring and bold styles with a touch of quirk are on the agenda – try feathers, fringes, Perspex or a touch of sports luxe via Velcro, clips and neoprene. There’s skinny straps, delicate heels and too damn cool slouch boots for those looking at something a little more feminine – contrast with bold camo or metallic trims for a delicious juxtaposition. Oh, and you can expect a comeback from the gladiator sandal (it’s cool, we promise).
